Rachel is a Florida native, avid sea kayaker and has been teaching outdoor education for over two decades. Her passion for the outdoors and adventure started as a young girl growing up exploring the Black Forest in Germany and living in a tree house on the Big Island of Hawaii. She started her first kayak tour and expedition company in 1999 and since has led multi day sea kayak expeditions in Gulf Island National Seashore and throughout Florida’s rivers and coastal waterways. Along with co-leading camping, whitewater rafting, hiking, and climbing trips with adults and youth throughout the Southeast.
She has been a consultant for tour companies developing business plans, training guides, and providing certifications courses through the ACA, SOLO, And American Heart Association. Now owner of Florida Outdoor Academy she is dedicated to providing the highest level outdoor certification to Florida residence. Her certification include Urban EMT, Wilderness EMT, AHA BLS Instructor, LMT, ACA L4 Coastal Kayak Coach, & RYT200.
Owner / Lead SOLO Instructor / Expedition Leader
Garrett has a BS in Expeditionary Studies from Plattsburgh State University. He is a Wilderness EMT, Geo Medic, Wilderness First Aid/Responder instructor, ACA level 2 river kayak instructor, BCU L1 coach, and a BCU 4 star trainee for both canoe and sea kayaking. In 2006 Garrett joined the Army as a Forward Observer and was selected by the 1-87 scout/sniper platoon with the 10th Mountain Division. After a nearly 15 month deployment to Iraq he got on his motorcycle and rode south. He rode for 7 months through Central and South America reaching Tierra del Fuego, then went north again into Brazil before flying home. He covered 21,000 miles on this trip and loved every one of them.
Garrett has worked as an expedition medic for a dirt bike tour company in Cambodia, paddled solo in a native wooden boat down the Mekong for 12 days. Click here to find out more about Garrett Cooper and Feral Human Expeditions
Lead SOLO Instructor / WEMT / Search & Rescue Ropes Expert
A former deputy sheriff and a current member of Florida Task Force 5 ( Northeast Florida USAR and FEMA Response Team), Scott holds certifications as an Urban and Wilderness EMT and a Rope, Trench, Confined Space and Collapsed Structure Rescue Technician. He is certified Advanced Swift Water Rescue Technician and Instructor.
Scott is a Wilderness First Aid, WFA Afloat and WFR instructor through SOLO Wilderness Medicine Schools. He has travelled all over the country teaching for SOLO.

SOLO Instructor / WEMT
Catherine is a Florida native who loves traveling, hiking, camping, paddling, biking and SCUBA diving around the sunshine state, the U.S. and internationally. She is a Wilderness EMT, SOLO wilderness first aid and CPR instructor, and outdoor trip leader. Catherine has volunteered with organizations providing community first aid stations, training and disaster relief. When she is not playing in the woods or involved in emergency medicine, Catherine works part-time as a professor teaching courses in political science and is completing her doctorate at the University of Florida. She lives near Gainesville, FL and is developing her homestead as a community center for learning and sharing wilderness, medical, and homesteading skills.
